100 Days With Mr Arrogant

Summary

After accidentally kicking a can into a car and dinting it, high school student Ha-young (Ha Ji-Won) flees the scene after being told she owes the cars owner Hyung-Joon $3000. Once she is found, she is then forced into a 100 day slave contract.

My Comments

Ha Ji Won (Ha-Young) also stars in Sex Is Zero.
I'm not a fan of Ha Ji Won's over the top character in this and was very strange to me since this was my first Korean film. I don't recommend this film as anyones first Korean film for this reason.
I think Koreans standard of beauty has changed a lot *cough* Hyung-Joon but I think he was definitely aged well since 2004 when the film was released.

Save The Green Planet

Summary

Before the lunar eclipse in 7 days, Byung-Gu must kidnap a man who he believes to be an alien in order to stop aliens invading and destroying the planet.

My Comments

This film was like a messed up version of Criminal Minds where the craziness just keeps on going and the police don't do a lot. I had to turn away from the screen a few times because I couldn't bare to watch   -slight gore warning- but I thoroughly enjoying it.  I think it's a film you either love or hate.. and I loved it. I use to think Shin Ha-Kyun (Byung-Gu) was a cutie.  That was before i watched this film

He Was Cool

Summary

Ye-Won is a polite, warm hearted girl. One day, she finds a wicked post on the school website and fiercely replies. The next day she recieves a phone call from the sender of the wicked text who is no other but the most feared school bully Eun-Sung. After avoiding him as much as possible, she recieves a text to meet him after school at the front gates. In an attempt to avoid him again, Ye-Won leaps over the school wall only to fall straight onto him accidently kissing him.

My Comments

When I first started watching Korean films I wasn't really into the arrogant, badass characters so when I started watching this film I didn't really like it a whole lot. Saying this, it was one of the first five Korean films i'd watched so i wasn't used to common cliques in Korean films yet. 30 films later I decided to re watch it and my verdict was: it was better. I like the character developent of characters such as Ji Eun-sung more now even though I'm still not a huge fan of the film.
Even though it wasn't in my top 30 films, He Was Cool is one of the most popular Korean Romantic Comedys of all time so i still suggest you give it a try.

Sex Is Zero

Summary

This film is rated 18+
Eun-shik is a sex addicted 26 year old law student in his first year in College. He has fallen for a gorgeous student Eun-Hyo but unfortunately she has also fallen for someone, the popular taken playboy Kim Ji-Won. Watch as Eun-Shik and his desperate friends attempt to get laid while Eun-sik tries to have Eun-Hyo return his feelings .

My Comments

When I think of this film, I usually think of it as the Korean version of American Pie.
Because I watched this film when I first started watching Korean films, i didn't find the film very funny because Korean comedy is quite different than Australian. However when i watched this film the other day I enjoyed it a lot more. Expect slightly crude humour.
The female lead Ha Ji Won also stars in 100 Days With Mr Arrogant

She's On Duty

Summary

In order to become close to a mob bosses daughter Nam Sang-MiDetective Chun Jae-In goes undercover as a high school student. Quickly Jae-In begins having trouble with the classes, school bullies and Sang-Mi ignores her completely. And on top of that, student No-Young (Gong Yoo) enters the picture and Jae-In finds herself falling in love with him.
Will she be able to complete her mission?

My Comments

In Korea the film was overhyped, people were disappointed and it didn't do well at the box office. However I thought this film was excellent with a mix of action, comedy and romance. I'm also a huge fan of Gong Yoo
(FIlms: Finding Mr Destiny, My Tutor Friend, S Diary. Dramas: Big, Coffee Prince)
The only thing I didn't really like about the film was the female lead Kim Sun Ah who annoys me in most films I seen with her in it.
If you're looking for a light hearted romantic comedy, this is a good film choice for you!

The Beast And The Beauty

Summary

Dong-Gun has a serious appearance complex. He has low self-esteem about his appearance, particularly a scar on his face. His world changes when he falls in love with a girl, named Hae-Joo who is blind and mistakes Dong-Gun’s car for a taxi cab. She soon realises he isn't a taxi driver and Dong-Gun becomes her eyes, taking her to places and describes what things look like to her. When she asks him what he looks like, Dong-Gun describes someone from his high school Jun-Ha. They soon fall in love and see each other for 3 years. Suddenly Hae-Joo learns an eye donor has been found and she can soon see again. Dong-Gun stresses that that once the Beauty gets her vision back she wont like a Beast like him. Things become more complicated when Jun-Ha randomly meets Hae-Joo and falls for her as well.

My Comments

This movie. This is one of the funniest Korean movies i've ever watched. I love the actor Ryoo Seung-Bum (Dong-Woo) and he plays his insecure and confused role perfectly.
Ahn Kil-Kang also has a role in this film (also in Dream High, You're My Pet and 100s of other things) and is as funny as always.

I'm A Cyborg But That's Ok

Summary

Young-Goon (Lim Soo-Jung) believes she is a cyborg. One day she is checked into a mental hospital after she decides to re-charge herself by slashing her wrist and implanting electrical wires into her arm. She soon encounters a guy named Il-Sun (Rain) who is just as eccentric as her. Formerly an electrician, Il-Sun is a thief of souls in the mental hospital. Young-Goon and Il-Sun soon form a strong bond as their odd personalities complements each other perfectly.

My Comments

Guys, guys. This film has Rain in it.                                                            And he does his hair like this

I absolutely adore this movie! Not only is it an alternative to your usual romanctic comedy but it also gives a watchers an interesting, light hearted view of different mental illnesses that each of the characters have. The film reminded me of a more cute, quirky version of the American films 'Girl Interrupted' or 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest'

Seducing Mr Perfect

Summary

M&A specialist Robin Heiden (half korean, half american Daniel Henney) travels to South Korea to takeover the Komatu Company of Japan. On his first day in Korea, he is rear ended by another car owner Min-Joon (Uhm jung hwa). Later that day she learns Robin is her new boss and is assigned as his assistant.
After struggling through a recent break up, Robin teaches Min-Joon lessons in relationships.

My Comments

Firstly I think I should state that my favourite thing about this movie is this:

(Daniel Henney)

Secondly this movie is good if you're in the mood for a cute, cheesy film.
If not, you should probably run in the opposite direction.

And thirdly, this film is in 1/3 English because Daniel Henney only speaks English in his role.

My PS Partner

Summary

This film is rated 18+

Instead of calling her boyfriend, Yoon-jung (Kim A joong) accidentally calls a total stranger, Hyun-seung (Ji Sung) and ends up having phone sex with him. Eventually they become comfortable with each other and start talking about their respective relationship problems over the phone before agreeing to meet up.

My Comments

This is one of the most sexual Korean films I have seen so far and you'll probably discover why once you watch it. As sexual as it was though, it also managed to be a cute romance which is i really liked the film. I enjoyed character development as well as how the two leads developed a close relationship.

Now if you're confused whether you still want to watch this, here is the reason why you should:

Unless you're into girls...

My Girl Friend Is An Agent

Summary

Because of her suspicious frequent absences, Jaejoon (Kang Ji Hwan) breaks up with his girlfriend Ahn Su-Ji (Kim Ha-Neuk) thinking that she's cheating on him when she’s actually a secret agent.
Three years later they meet up again except now Jaejoon is also a secret agent but works in another department than Su-ji.

My Comments

As much as I love Korean humour, I sometimes struggle to find films that can make me really laugh. The one of the reasons I love 'My Wife's An Agent' is because there are a few scenes that made me literally fall off my chair i was laughing so much. This is another korean film I bought on dvd :)

What did you think of this movie?

You're My Pet

Summary

After Ji Eun-Yi's (Kim Ha-Neuk) fiancĂ© leaves her for his mistress and is demoted at work, she stumbles across a young injured homeless man named In-Ho (Jang Keun-Sek) in a box outside her apartment. Oddly enough, he reminds Eun-Yi of her former pet dog Momo and she says she wants to keep him as a pet, and to her surprise, the young man agrees.

My Comments

A Romance and a Comedy. Here's another playful cute movie.
I loved it so much I bought it on Ebay, it had terrible English subs and I still watched it.
I've never been a huge fan of flower boys but I absolutely love Jang Keun Suk in this.
When my sister walked past me watching the film she said the 'that girl (Jang Keun Suk) has nice hair'

I've also developed a bit of a girl crush on Kim Ha-Neuk recently. She's been in LOTS of movies such as My Tutor Friend, Too Beautiful To Lie, Ditto, Almost Love, My Girlfriends An Agent which I all love.
