Summary

Sang-eun (Kang Hye-Jung) is a pretty 20 year old girl who is warm hearted, has a loving mom and friends but has the intelligence of a 7 years old. Sang-Eun learns everything slowly, but there are still a lot of things she doesn't understand. She is in love with the idea that she will meet her prince charming. One day Sang-Eun meets a traffic officer named Jong Bum, that she believes may be the prince of her dreams. Unaware that she's mentally disabled, Jong Bum soon falls in love with her before discovering the truth.

My Comments

I am in love with this movie, I've watched it 3 times so far. It's a nice to watch an innocent love movie that wasn't created for 12 year olds. The film shows overcoming obstacles such as the prejudice towards the handicapped. It is definitely worth the watch.
I adore the actress Kang Hye Jung who has also starred in Old boy and Welcome to Dongmakgol. She is married to one of my favourite singers Tablo.

The Beast And The Beauty

Summary

Dong-Gun has a serious appearance complex. He has low self-esteem about his appearance, particularly a scar on his face. His world changes when he falls in love with a girl, named Hae-Joo who is blind and mistakes Dong-Gun’s car for a taxi cab. She soon realises he isn't a taxi driver and Dong-Gun becomes her eyes, taking her to places and describes what things look like to her. When she asks him what he looks like, Dong-Gun describes someone from his high school Jun-Ha. They soon fall in love and see each other for 3 years. Suddenly Hae-Joo learns an eye donor has been found and she can soon see again. Dong-Gun stresses that that once the Beauty gets her vision back she wont like a Beast like him. Things become more complicated when Jun-Ha randomly meets Hae-Joo and falls for her as well.

My Comments

This movie. This is one of the funniest Korean movies i've ever watched. I love the actor Ryoo Seung-Bum (Dong-Woo) and he plays his insecure and confused role perfectly.
Ahn Kil-Kang also has a role in this film (also in Dream High, You're My Pet and 100s of other things) and is as funny as always.

Just Friends

Summary

Gay film rated 18+ in Korea (but no nudity) Duration: 28:51
Min-soo is on leave from the military and visits his boyfriend Seok-yi.
While having fun out on the town, they run into Min-soo mother. When the Min-soo's mother asks how they know each other (unaware of their homosexuality), Min-soo replies "... just friends."
Making things more complicated, Min-soo's mother ends up sleeping between them that night!

My Comments

This movie wins the awards for best kissing scene in Korean film history!
Aghh this movie is cute! The director of the film said he wanted to make a "real gay film of 99.9% purity" and he did a wonderful job. It's an excellent portrayal of how difficult it would be to be closeted gay especially in a country like South Korea where homosexuality is more frowned upon. The couple have perfect chemistry and the ending ...... <3
If you enjoyed this film, check out the gay film Love 100°C by the same director

Welcome To Dongmakgol

Summary

Dongmakgol is a village tucked away on a remote mountain and untouched by the ongoing Korean War. Fate brings three fighting forces together in Dongmakgol: a U.S. fighter pilot whose plane crashed in the mountains, three retreating North Korean soldiers and two South Korean soldiers who are lost. When the North and South Korean soldiers first face off in Dongmakgol they raise their arms, but the charming villagers soon have the soldiers agreeing to a temporary truce. In order to spare the village from complete destruction from US soldiers believing there are North American soldiers nearby, the soldiers decide to work together to divert the attack, possibly placing themselves directly in harm's way.

My Comments

I love films based on the conflict between South Korean and North Korea. For me, this movie was just ahhh Amazing! I cried and laughed in this movie. I loved the beautiful innocence of the villagers unaware of the war surrounding them. I really dont want to give too much away but this was a brilliant movie and it sold a total of 8,008,622 tickets in 2005 and won 11 awards

My Favourite quote

  • Soldier: You have such a hold on the villagers without ever raising your voice, What's the secret to your great leadership?
  • Villager: You just gotta feed them a lot.

I'm A Cyborg But That's Ok

Summary

Young-Goon (Lim Soo-Jung) believes she is a cyborg. One day she is checked into a mental hospital after she decides to re-charge herself by slashing her wrist and implanting electrical wires into her arm. She soon encounters a guy named Il-Sun (Rain) who is just as eccentric as her. Formerly an electrician, Il-Sun is a thief of souls in the mental hospital. Young-Goon and Il-Sun soon form a strong bond as their odd personalities complements each other perfectly.

My Comments

Guys, guys. This film has Rain in it.                                                            And he does his hair like this

I absolutely adore this movie! Not only is it an alternative to your usual romanctic comedy but it also gives a watchers an interesting, light hearted view of different mental illnesses that each of the characters have. The film reminded me of a more cute, quirky version of the American films 'Girl Interrupted' or 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest'

No Regret

Summary

Gay Film , This film is rated 18+
Soo-min (Lee Young-Hoon) is an orphan trying to balance work in a factory with study at art college and an evening job. One night, a rich young businessman named Jae-Min (Kim Nam-Gil) tries to seduce him during one of his driving jobs. They meet again the next day: it is during a round of redundancy cuts at the factory where Soo-min refuses an attempt by Jaemin (who is in fact the boss' son) to save his job. Soo-min then begins working as a male prostitute in a boy-brothel and Jaemin's obsession with him grows, leaving Jaemin helpless in the face of his overwhelming desire.

My Comments

This has to be one of my favourite gay films of all time and amazingly it was filmed with funds of just $100,000 USD! The guys aren't amaazzing looking unfortunately but I think definietly makes up for it with its strong themes of passion, misunderstandings and desire. Warning: This film has strong sex scenes (at least for a Korean film). If you're wondering, The reason I enjoy some gay films is because of the themes of forbidden love and people over coming obstacles to be together.

Seducing Mr Perfect

Summary

M&A specialist Robin Heiden (half korean, half american Daniel Henney) travels to South Korea to takeover the Komatu Company of Japan. On his first day in Korea, he is rear ended by another car owner Min-Joon (Uhm jung hwa). Later that day she learns Robin is her new boss and is assigned as his assistant.
After struggling through a recent break up, Robin teaches Min-Joon lessons in relationships.

My Comments

Firstly I think I should state that my favourite thing about this movie is this:

(Daniel Henney)

Secondly this movie is good if you're in the mood for a cute, cheesy film.
If not, you should probably run in the opposite direction.

And thirdly, this film is in 1/3 English because Daniel Henney only speaks English in his role.
Thank you *insert gods name*

My PS Partner

Summary

This film is rated 18+

Instead of calling her boyfriend, Yoon-jung (Kim A joong) accidentally calls a total stranger, Hyun-seung (Ji Sung) and ends up having phone sex with him. Eventually they become comfortable with each other and start talking about their respective relationship problems over the phone before agreeing to meet up.

My Comments

This is one of the most sexual Korean films I have seen so far and you'll probably discover why once you watch it. As sexual as it was though, it also managed to be a cute romance which is i really liked the film. I enjoyed character development as well as how the two leads developed a close relationship.

Now if you're confused whether you still want to watch this, here is the reason why you should:

Unless you're into girls...

My Girl Friend Is An Agent

Summary

Because of her suspicious frequent absences, Jaejoon (Kang Ji Hwan) breaks up with his girlfriend Ahn Su-Ji (Kim Ha-Neuk) thinking that she's cheating on him when she’s actually a secret agent.
Three years later they meet up again except now Jaejoon is also a secret agent but works in another department than Su-ji.

My Comments

As much as I love Korean humour, I sometimes struggle to find films that can make me really laugh. The one of the reasons I love 'My Wife's An Agent' is because there are a few scenes that made me literally fall off my chair i was laughing so much. This is another korean film I bought on dvd :)

What did you think of this movie?

Temptation Of Wolves

Summary

Based on an internet novel with the same name.
After her father's death, A rustic girl named Han kyung (Lee Chung-ahcomes to Seoul to live with her mother, planning to attend Kang-Shin High School.
Attracted by her pure charm, popular guys Hae won (Jo Han sun) and Tae Sung (Gang Dong Won) fight her affection.

My Comments

When watching this film, these are three main stages I went through:

At first I was like

and then I was like

and then I was like

That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to ruin it for anyone.
It took me a while to want to watch this movie since Asianwiki had a cringe worthy line in the summary but I'm super glad I watched it.
The guys.... omg. Initially I didn't think the guys looked all that amazing but after 10 minutes into the movie I was in love with both of them.

Enjoy! Please leave a comment what you thought of the film :)

You're My Pet

Summary

After Ji Eun-Yi's (Kim Ha-Neuk) fiancĂ© leaves her for his mistress and is demoted at work, she stumbles across a young injured homeless man named In-Ho (Jang Keun-Sek) in a box outside her apartment. Oddly enough, he reminds Eun-Yi of her former pet dog Momo and she says she wants to keep him as a pet, and to her surprise, the young man agrees.

My Comments

A Romance and a Comedy. Here's another playful cute movie.
I loved it so much I bought it on Ebay, it had terrible English subs and I still watched it.
I've never been a huge fan of flower boys but I absolutely love Jang Keun Suk in this.
When my sister walked past me watching the film she said the 'that girl (Jang Keun Suk) has nice hair'

I've also developed a bit of a girl crush on Kim Ha-Neuk recently. She's been in LOTS of movies such as My Tutor Friend, Too Beautiful To Lie, Ditto, Almost Love, My Girlfriends An Agent which I all love.
